Welcome & Campaign Overview

Wildfire Preparedness Month is a nationwide effort each May to help residents and visitors prepare for wildfire season before the most dangerous months arrive.

In Plumas County, this work happens at the community level. The Plumas County Fire Safe Council works with local organizations, businesses, and community groups to share simple actions that help reduce wildfire risk.

Throughout May, partners across the county help share practical preparedness steps that protect homes, families, forests, and communities—building a stronger culture of wildfire preparedness in Plumas County.

Maintaining defensible space around homes helps reduce wildfire risk and supports firefighters working to protect communities.

Week 2: Home Hardening
Small improvements—like clearing gutters, screening vents, and using fire-resistant materials—can help homes better withstand wildfire.

Week 3: Evacuation Readiness
Having a plan and packing early helps households move quickly and smoothly if evacuation becomes necessary.
